Congregational Greeting & Theme of the Day:
“Into Jerusalem”

THE WORD OF GOD:  First Lesson:  Isaiah 50:4-9a
4The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.  5The Sovereign LORD has opened my ears, and I have not been rebellious; I have not drawn back.  6I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.  7Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.  8He who vindicates me is near. Who then will bring charges against me? Let us face each other! Who is my accuser? Let him confront me!  9It is the Sovereign LORD who helps me.

Psalm 31:9-16
9    Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul
      and my body with grief.
10   My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails
because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.
11   Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my
friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me.
12   I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.

13   For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me
and plot to take my life.
14   But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God."
15   My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue
       me.
16   Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.

Second Lesson:  Philippians 2:5-11
5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!  9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, beginning in the 11th Chapter.

Gospel Lesson:  Mark 11:1-11
1As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2saying to them, "Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3If anyone asks you, 'Why are you doing this?' tell him, 'The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.'"  4They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5some people standing there asked, "What are you doing, untying that colt?"  6They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it.  8Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields.  9Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"  10"Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!" "Hosanna in the highest!"  11Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.
