PRAYER OF THE DAY:…………………………………………………………  WOV Page 30
P:   The Lord be with you.
C:   And also with you.
P:   Let us pray…
C: God of all hope, make us bold to ask in faith for what we need, and to trust you accordingly.  Send us wisdom, that we might follow in your paths, doing what is right and just.  In Christ Jesus.  Amen.

THE WORD OF GOD:  First Lesson:  1 Kings 3:5-14
5At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you."  6Solomon answered, "You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day.  7"Now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties.  8Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number.  9So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?"  10The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this.  11So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice,  12I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.  13Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for--both riches and honor--so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.  14And if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life."

Psalm 111
1   Praise the LORD. I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly.
2   Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them.
3   Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever.
4   He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate.
5   He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.
6   He has shown his people the power of his works, giving them the lands of other nations.
7   The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.
8   They are steadfast for ever and ever, done in faithfulness and uprightness.
9   He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever-- holy and awesome is his name.
10   The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Second Lesson:  Ephesians 5:15-20
15Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, 16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.  18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.  19Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand): WOV No. 613
C:
Celtic Alleluia

                                            Al – le – lu – ia,  al – le – lu – ia!
         Al – le – lu – ia,  al – le – lu – ia!

P: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, beginning in the 6th Chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.

Gospel Lesson:  John 6:51-58
51I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."  52Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"  53Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.  54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.  55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.  56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.  57Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.  58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever."

P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON:........................................”Wisdom Quest” .............................Pastor Mark Evans

PRAISE HYMN:
                                                  Jesus Loves Me

Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong.  They are weak but He is strong.

Refrain    Yes, Jesus loves me.  Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.  The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me, He who died, heaven’s gate to open wide.
He will wash away my sin, let His little child come in.

Refrain

Jesus loves me, this I know, as he loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee, saying, “Let them come to Me.”

Refrain

APOSTLES' CREED (stand, if you are able): WOV Page 33
C:  I believe in God, the Father almighty,
   Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.

   He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
   He descended into hell.*
On the third day he rose again.
   He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
   the holy catholic Church,
   the communion of saints,
   the forgiveness of sins,
   the resurrection of the body,
   and the life everlasting. Amen.

OFFERING/OFFERTORY: (Stand, if you are able, and sing)…………. LBW 565

ourselves, our time, and our possessions, signs of your gracious love.

 our Lord.  Amen.

Saturday Worship Action Team (SWAT):

Do you enjoy Saturday night worship? Are you interested in how this service functions; or, would you like some changes made? The SWAT members meet every 2 months for
approximately 1/2 hour after a Saturday service. Working with the team does not require much of your time and it's easy! Each person takes a turn "ushering" a service and always with another team member. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Mark.
Our next meeting is August 15th - hope to see you there!

JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE
There are about 200 giving units in our church and if each unit gave an extra $10 each month at the end of the year we would have an additional $24,000.  Please consider a slight increase in your commitment to the ministry here at St. John and help solve our financial problem.

UPCOMING SERMON SERIES
Do you have any suggestions for Pastor Mark?  Are there any subjects you would like to see turned into a Sermon Series?  Do you have any questions or concerns that you would like to see PM
develop into a Sermon Series for this fall?  If you do then tell Pastor or call the church office.

If you have an extra vehicle you have been considering donating, please call Charity Motors Car Donation Program and tell them you want to donate your vehicle and designate the proceeds to St. John Lutheran Church.  You will receive a tax donation while helping our church!
