WORSHIP 10:30 AM
“Praise God and Do Good Deeds!”
Today is Thankoffering Sunday. Women of the Lutheran church have been gathering for Thankoffering services since the early 1900s. It is a tradition, grounded in our celebration of community, in which we meet together as faithful women joyfully giving thanks and praise for what God has given us.
Prelude……………………………………………………….……...............……Karen Palmer
CAN-DO RINGERS: “Fanfare” by Michael Helman
CALL TO WORSHIP
Pastor: As God’s disciples, we are called to bear and tend the light of Christ.
All: Let God’s light shine.
Pastor: As we wait for the fulfillment of God’s reign, we are to praise Him and share His love by doing good deeds.
All: Let God’s light shine.
OPENING HYMN This Little Light of Mine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
Won’t let anyone blow it out, I’m gonna let it shine.
Won’t let anyone blow it out, I’m gonna let it shine.
Won’t let anyone blow it out, I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel, No!, I’m gonna let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel, No!, I’m gonna let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel, No!, I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
Shine all over Romeo, I’m gonna let it shine.
Shine all over Romeo, I’m gonna let it shine.
Shine all over Romeo, I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
PRAYER OF THE DAY:
Pastor: Let us pray:
C: In moments of distress, or joy, or hope, O God of love, hear us as we cry to You. Comfort us with your presence, and fill us with visions of your world to come. Amen.
FEATURE SONG: “God Is Love”
Words and music by Sue C. Smith, David Moffitt and Travis Cottrell
Children’s Sermon
THE WORD OF GOD: Hebrews 10:19-25
19Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how we may provoke one another on toward love and good deeds. 25Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
PRAISE SONG OF THE MONTH

I want to see You. I want to see You.
To see You high and lifted up,
Shining in the light of Your glory.
Pour out Your power and love, as we sing holy, holy, holy.
2nd ending High and lifted up, shining in the light of Your glory.
Pour out Your power and love as we sing, holy, holy, holy.
Holy, holy, holy, Holy, holy, holy, Holy, holy, holy. I want to see You.

PRAYER
Assisting Minister: With these gifts, O God, we commit ourselves again to praising You and sharing Christ’s love through our deeds and words. Anoint us and these gifts with patience and wisdom to do your will.
All: Amen
PRAYER RESPONSE Sweet Hour of Prayer
Sweet hour of prayer that calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne – make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief,
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare, by thy return, sweet hour of prayer.
THE PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH
Assisting Minister: Lord in your mercy
Congregation: Hear our prayer
Pastor: Into your hands Lord, we commend all for whom we pray trusting in
your mercy through Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
All: Amen
THE LORD’S PRAYER
P: Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray:
All: Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us
our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen
THE BENEDICTION:
P: We go forth into this day with shouts of praise to the Lord. With active longing, we await inspiration, clarity of purpose, and new gifts of the Spirit. Go with the light of God, the affirming love of Jesus Christ, and the ever-renewing power of the Holy Spirit. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
All: Amen
CLOSING SONG: Shout To The Lord
Verse 1 My Jesus, my Savior, Lord there is none like You;
All of my days, I want to praise the wonders of Your mighty love.
My Comfort, my Shelter, Tower of refuge and strength;
Let every breath, all that I am, never cease to worship You.
Chorus Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing,
Power and majesty praise to the King;
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of Your name.
I sing for joy at the work of your hands,
Forever I’ll love You, forever I’ll stand,
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.
Repeat verse and chorus
Ending Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.
Assisting Minister: Go in peace and serve the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God!

Future Sermon Series for January 2010
Pastor Mark could use your help with an idea for a future sermon series. Here’s a question he would like to expand into a three or four part sermon series. Can any good come out of these troubled times?
Where is hope to be found in these troubled times? PM has some ideas; how about you?
We invite Pre-school thru 5th Grade children to join us! Kids of the Kingdom (KOK Kids) meet after 8:30 service from 9:45-10:20am upstairs in the room next to the library and then the children go down to Sunday School. Any questions or concerns, please contact Marlene (248-651-7394) or Karen (586-752-7734). We practice 3 times a month and usually sing once a month at the 10:30 service.

Stephen Ministry
It’s Okay to Be Human...
We’re brought up to be strong, self-sufficient, independent people. We tend to think that if we ask for help, it’s a sign of weakness. So we try to keep our struggles hidden, stuffed deep inside. However, that’s not God’s plan! Galatians 6:2 says “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” God wants us to care for others – and allow others to care for us in our time of need. If you’re sad or struggling inside, don’t suffer alone. Ask for help. We’ve got a team of Stephen Ministers who are ready to listen, care, encourage, pray and help you through a tough time. Men are matched with men and women with women. (It’s completely confidential, too!) For more info, talk to one of our Stephen Leaders, Pastor Mark or call the church office for a confidential return call.
