We worship You, we give You thanks, we praise You for Your glory.
Glory to God, glory to God, glory to God in the highest;
Glory to God, glory to God, and peace to God’s people on earth.
PRAYER OF THE DAY:………………………………………………………… WOV Page 30
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Let us pray…
C: Lord, give us the courage to believe what Jesus taught: that only what is first broken, like bread, can be shared; that only what is broken is open to Your entry; that old wineskins must first be ripped open and replaced if the new wine of life is to expand. Lord, help us to believe. Amen.
PRAISE HYMN: “Shine, Jesus, Shine” WOV No. 651
THE WORD OF GOD: First Lesson: Philippians 1:12-14
12Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. 13As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. 14Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.
Psalm 43
1 Vindicate me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation; rescue me from deceitful and wicked men.
2 You are God my stronghold. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?
3 Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.
4 Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God.
5 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Second Lesson: John 12:23-25
23Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand): WOV No. 613

Celtic Alleluia
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
P: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, beginning in the 16th Chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
Gospel Lesson: John 16:6-8
6Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. 7But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:
P: The Gospel of the Lord.

was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.*
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

Haiti Earthquake Relief
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
On January 12th, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake rocked the island country of Haiti. Offices, hotels, houses and shops have collapsed. The presidential palace is in ruins and many churches have been destroyed. Hospitals are overflowing and the search for survivors is intense. The streets of Haiti are filled with people in shock and searching for loved ones among the rubble. Your help is needed today to bring immediate relief and continued hope for our brothers and sisters in Haiti. About 3 million lives, one-third of Haiti’s population, are affected by this earthquake. Already one of the poorest countries in the world (70 percent of Haiti's population lives in extreme poverty), this catastrophe will exacerbate the suffering felt by many already living with hunger and poverty. ELCA Disaster Response is already working through long-standing partnerships on the ground to provide emergency food, water, shelter and medical supplies. Financial gifts are urgently needed. Your gifts to ELCA International Disaster Response, designated for Haiti Earthquake Relief, will be used entirely (100 percent) for immediate relief and ongoing recovery in Haiti. Your prayers and generous gifts will make a life-saving difference. Please give today at www.elca.org/haitiearthquake
More Disaster Relief for Haiti
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, in response to the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti, is announcing a $1 million challenge to its members across the country. Thrivent Financial will match $1 for every $2 donated by Thrivent Financial members up to $1 million for the potential of generating $3 million. Funds will be directed to four Lutheran organizations to support their Haiti earthquake relief efforts: Lutheran World Relief, ELCA Disaster Response, LCMS World Relief and Human Care and WELS Committee on Relief. Thrivent members can make their donation online at thrivent.com/helpinghaiti or by phone at 800-236-3736 between 7am-6pm central time M-F. When prompted, say “directory” then enter ext. 83003. Thrivent will add a maximum of $250 per member on donations accepted thru 3/31/10.
