WORSHIP 9:30 AM

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP P=Presiding, A=Assisting, C=Congregation

Prelude Jan Evans

Congregational Greeting and Theme of the Day:
“Wisdom Calls”

ENTRANCE HYMN (stand):         “God of Our Fathers” LBW No. 567

GREETING:
P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,
 and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C: And also with you.

KYRIE: WOV Page 28

HYMN OF PRAISE: WOV Page 29
Glory to God, glory to God, glory to God in the highest;
Glory to God, glory to God, and peace to God’s people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly king, almighty God and Father,
We worship You, we give You thanks, we praise You for Your glory.
Glory to God, glory to God, glory to God in the highest;
Glory to God, glory to God, and peace to God’s people on earth.

PRAYER OF THE DAY: WOV Page 30
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Let us pray…
C: Eternal and Triune God, thank you for creating a home for us, for sending Jesus to reveal your glory, and for the gift of Spirit to guide us into truth. Help us to know you in all your ways and rejoice in your glory.  Amen.

BAPTISM:   (No photographs, please until after worship.  The Service of Baptism is an opportunity for all of us to remember our Baptisms.)

P:   Dear Parents and Sponsors, you have brought Ava Elizabeth Seagram to this place because God wants her to be washed and cleansed.  Through sin, we live in a broken world, but in baptism, by water and the spirit, we are reborn children of God and made members of Christ’s Body.

S:   We present Ava Elizabeth Seagram to be washed in God’s Baptismal water.

P:   As parents and sponsors, you are now asked to see that this child grows up in the
Christian Faith; that she learns the stories of our Faith.  See to it that through your lives she understands the meaning of the Creeds, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments. Make sure that she experiences the love of Christ through your love, for it is Christ’s love which shall sustain her throughout her life.  Will you keep these promises?

Parents & Sponsors:   We will.

P:   Together, with this Congregation of Believers, will you affirm your faith and the Faith into which Ava is baptized?

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH:  (congregation together)
God is love, and in God is the source of all goodness and truth.  God is the creator of the universe and continues to recreate with us a kingdom of compassion for all humankind.  Jesus is God’s Son.  Jesus was born of Mary, lived a life of kindness and concern, died a cruel death on an executioner’s cross, and was raised on the third day to a new life.  Jesus’ life is our life.  We can now
live a life of kindness and concern; we can die and be raised to new life; we can live as forgiven sinners, confident of our place in eternity.  We can respond to the call of Christ to follow him.  The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God, alive and at work, establishing and building the realm of God on this earth.  The Spirit of God leads us into the true faith, guides us through the difficult choices of life, and comforts us when we feel as if we cannot go on.  God is with us, living inside of us, through the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

THE BAPTISM:  Ava Elizabeth Seagram, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

BAPTISMAL PRAYER
P:   Ava, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the Cross of Christ forever.

A:   Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

CONGREGATIONAL WELCOME:    We welcome you into the Lord’s family.  We receive you as a fellow member of the body of Christ, child of the same heavenly Father, and a worker with us in the kingdom of God.

 Today we welcome Ava Elizabeth Seagram into our family of Christ.  Ava is the daughter of Jason Seagram and Samantha Compton of Washington.   Ava’s sponsors are Katie Marcou and David Loverde.

PRAISE HYMN:                               Awesome God

Our God is an awesome God; He reigns from heaven above,
With wisdom, power and love, our God is an awesome God!
Our God is an awesome God!
Our God is an awesome God!
Our God is an awesome God!

THE WORD OF GOD:
First Reading:  Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31
1Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?  2On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; 3beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud:  4"To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. 22"The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; 23I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began.  24When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water; 25before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, 26before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world.
27I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, 28when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, 29when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.  30Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, 31rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind.

Psalm 91
1     He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the
       Almighty.
2     I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom
       I trust."
3     Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4     He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find
       refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5     You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6     nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys
       at midday.
7     A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will
       not come near you.
8     You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
9     If you make the Most High your dwelling-- even the LORD, who is my refuge—
10   then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
11   For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12   they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot
       against a stone.

13   You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and
       the serpent.
14   "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect
       him, for he acknowledges my name.
15   He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble,
       I will deliver him and honor him.
16   With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

Second Lesson: John 16:12-15
12"I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.  13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.  14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.  15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand): WOV No. 613
C:
     Celtic Alleluia

                                       Al – le – lu – ia,  al – le – lu – ia!

    Al – le – lu – ia,  al – le – lu – ia!

P: The Holy Gospel according to Romans, the 5th Chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.

The Holy Gospel:  Romans 5:1-5
1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.  3Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope.  5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

P: The Gospel of the Lord.

C: Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON:                                         “Wisdom Calls”                     Pastor Mark Evans

OFFERING/OFFERTORY: (Stand, if you are able, and sing)…………. LBW 565
C: Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
 Praise Him, all creatures here below;
 Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
 Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

A: Let us pray. Merciful God,
C: we offer with joy and thanksgiving what You have first given us--ourselves,  our time, and our possessions, signs of Your gracious love.  Receive them  for the sake of Him who offered Himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord.   Amen.

After the updates of the People Concerns, the Congregation will stand and sing together:

Bind Us Together

Bind us together, Lord, bind us together with cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together Lord, bind us together, bind us together with love.

There is only one God.  There is only one King.
There is only one body.  That is why we sing.

Bind us together, Lord, bind us together with cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together Lord, bind us together, bind us together with love.

THE PRAYERS (stand): WOV Page 34
A: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus,
 and for all people according to their needs.
Each portion of the prayers concludes with these words:
A: Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.

The prayers conclude with these words:
P: Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray,
 trusting in your mercy; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
C: Amen

THE LORD’S PRAYER: (Stand if you are able) WOV Page 39
P:  Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:
C: Our Father, who art in heaven,
   hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
   thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
  Give us this day our daily bread;
  and forgive us our trespasses,
   as we forgive those who trespass against us;
  and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
   forever and ever. Amen.

THE BENEDICTION:

 The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
