Praise Ringers                             “Blessed Assurance”
arr. By Cynthia Dobrinski

Welcome/
Call To Worship ………………………………………………….Pastor Mark

OPENING SONG:  This Is The Day

         This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made;
We will rejoice, we will rejoice, and be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made.

This is the day, this is the day, when he rose again, when he rose again,
We will rejoice, we will rejoice, and be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that he rose again, we will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day when he rose a-gain.

This is the day, this is the day, when the Spirit came; when the Spirit came.
We will rejoice, we will rejoice, and be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day when the Spirit came, we will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day, when the Spir-it came.

Prayer of the Day:
Awesome God of power and grace, open our hearts to know your care for us.  Sustain us and give us generous spirits, that we may extend your compassion to others.  Amen.

Praise Singers and Youth Choir      “An Ascription of Praise”        arr. By Marty Parks

BAPTISM:   (No photographs, please until after worship.  The Service of Baptism is an opportunity for all of us to remember our Baptisms.)

P:   Dear Parents and Sponsors, you have brought Edie Corrine Hohner to this place because God wants her to be washed and cleansed.  Through sin, we live in a broken world, but in baptism, by water and the spirit, we are reborn children of God and made members of Christ’s Body.

S:   We present Edie Corrine Hohner to be washed in God’s Baptismal water.

P:   As parents and sponsors, you are now asked to see that this child grows up in the
Christian Faith; that she learns the stories of our Faith.  See to it that through your lives she understands the meaning of the Creeds, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments. Make sure that she experiences the love of Christ through your love, for it is Christ’s love which shall sustain her throughout her life.  Will you keep these promises?

Parents & Sponsors:   We will.

P:   Together, with this Congregation of Believers, will you affirm your faith and the Faith into which Edie is baptized?

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH:  (congregation together)
God is love, and in God is the source of all goodness and truth.  God is the creator of the universe and continues to recreate with us a kingdom of compassion for all humankind.  Jesus is God’s Son.  Jesus was born of Mary, lived a life of kindness and concern, died a cruel death on an executioner’s cross, and was raised on the third day to a new life.  Jesus’ life is our life.  We can now live a life of kindness and concern; we can die and be raised to new life; we can live as forgiven sinners, confident of our place in eternity.  We can respond to the call of Christ to follow him.  The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God, alive and at work, establishing and building the realm of God on this earth.  The Spirit of God leads us into the true faith, guides us through the difficult choices of life, and comforts us when we feel as if we cannot go on.  God is with us, living inside of us, through the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

THE BAPTISM:  Edie Corrine Hohner, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

BAPTISMAL PRAYER
P:   Edie, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the Cross of Christ forever.

A:   Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

CONGREGATIONAL WELCOME:    We welcome you into the Lord’s family.  We receive you as a fellow member of the body of Christ, child of the same heavenly Father, and a worker with us in the kingdom of God.

 Today we welcome Edie Corrine Hohner into our family of Christ.  Edie is the daughter of James and Lieca (Brown) Hohner of Washington.   Edie’s sponsors are Kimberly and John Karns.

SCRIPTURE:
First Lesson:  1 Kings 17:6-16
6The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.  7Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.  8Then the word of the LORD came to him:  9"Go at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food."  10So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, "Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?"  11As she was going to get it, he called, "And bring me, please, a piece of bread."  12"As surely as the LORD your God lives," she replied, "I don't have any bread--only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it--and die."  13Elijah said to her, "Don't be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.  14For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD gives rain on the land.'"  15She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.  16For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah.

Kids of the Kingdom                          “Something”                             by John Ness Beck

Psalm 146
1     Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.
2     I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as
       I live.
3     Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.
4     When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day
       their plans come to nothing.
5     Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD
       his God,
6     the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—the
       LORD,  who remains faithful forever.
7     He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The
       LORD sets prisoners free,
8     the LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are
bowed  down, the LORD loves the righteous.
9     The LORD watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
10   The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise
       the LORD.

Second Lesson:  Galatians 1:11-24
11I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up.  12I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.  13For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.  14I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers.  15But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased 16to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man, 17nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.  18Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days.  19I saw none of the other apostles--only James, the Lord's brother.  20I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.  21Later I went to Syria and Cilicia.  22I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ.  23They only heard the report: "The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy."  24And they praised God because of me.

Congregation, please stand for the reading of the gospel if you are able.
GOSPEL:   Luke 7:11-17   ………………………………….Pastor Mark
11Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him.  12As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out--the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her.  13When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, "Don't cry."  14Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!"   15The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.  16They were all filled with awe and praised God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said. "God has come to help his people."  17This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.
