PRAYER OF THE DAY: WOV Page 30
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Let us pray…
C: O God, make of me some nourishment for these starved times, some food for my brothers and sisters who are hungry for gladness and hope, that being bread for them, I may also be fed and be full.  Amen.  (A portion of the poem Sometimes It Just Seems to Be Too Much by Ted Loder)

THE WORD OF GOD:  Jonah 3:1-10
1Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time:  2"Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you."  3Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very important city--a visit required three days.  4On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned."  5The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.  6When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.  7Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let any man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink.  8But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence.  9Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish."  10When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened.

Psalm 83
1     O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still.
2     See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads.
3     With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish.
4     "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be
       remembered no more."
5     With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you--
6     the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites,
7     Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
8     Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot.
9     Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
10   who perished at Endor and became like refuse on the ground.
11   Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12   who said, "Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God."
13   Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind.
14   As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15   so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.
16   Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.
17   May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace.
18   Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD-- that you alone are the Most
       High over all the earth.

SECOND LESSON:  Colossians 1:1-14
1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, 2To the holy and faithful brothers in Christ at Colosse: Grace and peace to you from God our Father.  3We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints--5the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel 6that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth.  7You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, 8and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.  9For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.  10And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.  13For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand, if you are able): WOV No. 612

C: Celtic Alleluia:

                                      Al – le – lu – ia,  al – le – lu – ia!

    Al – le – lu – ia,  al – le – lu – ia!

P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 10th Chapter
C: Glory to you, O Lord.

THE HOLY GOSPEL:   Luke 10:25-37
25On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"  26"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"  27He answered: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind' ; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"  28"You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."  29But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"  30In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.  31A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.  32So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.  33But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.  34He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.  35The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'  36"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"  37The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."

P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.

O Lord, speak through me.

THE PRAYERS (stand): WOV Page 34

P: Gracious God,
C: Our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo.
Forgive what our lips tremble to name; what our hearts can no longer bear,
and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a
 past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed;
 and grant us grace to grow more and more in Your likeness and image;
through Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON:
P: Jesus Christ our Savior gave himself  for us, redeeming us from all sin and  cleansing us to be people who are eager to do what is good. Through the water of rebirth and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, God saves us, renews us in grace and  bestows on us eternal life.
C: Amen

C: We lift them to the Lord.
P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

Congregation sings
C: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.

    Hosanna in the highest.

P: In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:  Take and eat; this is my body, given for
you.   Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying:  This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.  Do this for the remembrance of me.

MCREST

Just a note to let everyone know that we are no longer participating in the MCREST program.
There have been several changes in administration and processes this year. With these new process changes, your MCREST team, along with our church council, felt we could not abide by the new changes and provide a safe and caring environment. We would like to thank everyone who has given of themselves over the past nine years as we worked to help and change the direction of so many folks.
Pastor Mark has suggested a new direction for all our time and talents - perhaps Samaritan House, Be the Church, or a Soup Supper Saturday program.  Our volunteer options are unlimited. Thank you again for all you have done.
