THE WORD OF GOD: First Lesson: Ecclesiastes 7:12-14
12Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: that wisdom preserves the life of its possessor. 13Consider what God has done: Who can straighten what he has made crooked? 14When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future.
Psalm 128
1 Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways.
2 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.
3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots
around your table.
4 Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.
5 May the LORD bless you from Zion all the days of your life; may you see the prosperity
of Jerusalem,
6 and may you live to see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel.
Second Lesson: 1 Timothy 1:1-10
1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, 2To Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer 4nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith. 5The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. 7They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm. 8We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers--and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand): WOV No. 613
C:
Celtic Alleluia
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, beginning in the 10th Chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
Gospel Lesson: Luke 10:38-42
38As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" 41"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.

MCREST
Just a note to let everyone know that we are no longer participating in the MCREST program.
There have been several changes in administration and processes this year. With these new process changes, your MCREST team, along with our church council, felt we could not abide by the new changes and provide a safe and caring environment. We would like to thank everyone who has given of themselves over the past nine years as we worked to help and change the direction of so many folks.
Pastor Mark has suggested a new direction for all our time and talents - perhaps Samaritan House, Be the Church, or a Soup Supper Saturday program. Our volunteer options are unlimited. Thank you again for all you have done.

DAY CAMP AND VBS
Mark your calendars!
St. John along with Living Waters Ministries will once again be holding Day Camp this year. Any child who has completed Kindergarten through 5th grade is welcome to attend. Day Camp will be help from August 2-6 here at St. John and will run from 9 am--3 pm. Also, we will be holding Vacation Bible School during the same time from 9 am-11:30 am. Vacation Bible School is for children entering pre-school and Kindergarten. Forms for both camp and VBS are available in the main hallway on the Youth Bulletin Board.
Volunteers Needed.
We are in need of one or two families to host the 4 counselors from Living Waters Ministries the week of August 1st-6th. This is the week of Day Camp and VBS. If you are interested, please see Jennifer Stark for more information.
Also, we still need volunteers to help with VBS that week. If you are available in the morning of the week of August 2nd-6th and would like to help out with the little kids in various activities--it would be greatly appreciated. There is a sign up sheet in the Gathering Area. Thank you!
