PRAYER OF THE DAY:………………………………………………………… WOV Page 30
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Let us pray…
C: Lord, we are so easily distracted. Time and time again the stuff of life turns us away from you; but you continue to reach out to us. Your love never fails. We are here this day to thank you for your unfailing love and never-ending mercy. Amen.
THE WORD OF GOD: First Lesson: Hosea 11:1-4, 8-11
1"When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. 2But the more I called Israel, the further they went from me. They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images. 3It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms; but they did not realize it was I who healed them. 4I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love; I lifted the yoke from their neck and bent down to feed them. 8"How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? My heart is changed within me; all my compassion is aroused. 9I will not carry out my fierce anger, nor will I turn and devastate Ephraim. For I am God, and not man-- the Holy One among you. I will not come in wrath. 10They will follow the LORD; he will roar like a lion. When he roars, his children will come trembling from the west. 11They will come trembling like birds from Egypt, like doves from Assyria. I will settle them in their homes," declares the LORD.
Psalm 107:1-9, 43
1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this-- those he redeemed from the hand of
the foe,
3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.
4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could
settle.
5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away.
6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from
their distress.
7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle.
8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful
deeds for men,
9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
43 Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of
the LORD.
Second Lesson: Colossians 3:1-4
1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand): WOV No. 613
C:
Celtic Alleluia
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, beginning in the 12th Chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
Gospel Lesson: Luke 12:13-21
13Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." 14Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?" 15Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." 16And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.' 18"Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry."' 20"But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' 21"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."
P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON:................... ”Went Fishing With Sam, Day Wasted”...................David Hudson
PRAISE HYMN: Jesus Loves Me
Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong. They are weak but He is strong.
Refrain Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me, He who died, heaven’s gate to open wide.
He will wash away my sin, let His little child come in.
Refrain
Jesus loves me, this I know, as He loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee, saying, “Let them come to me.”
Refrain
APOSTLES' CREED (stand, if you are able): WOV Page 33
C: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.*
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Interested in reading one of the book club books but think that you have to join the computer blog to take part? Read anyway! If you’re not computer savvy, or are just not interested in blogging as a form of communication, we still want you to be involved. Pick up a copy of something that interests you and don’t worry about anything other than your own enjoyment of the book. Also, if you like one of the authors you’re reading, look around at the shelves in the book nook. There are other books by most of the authors chosen. We’ve also added other books (such as the Joshua Series and the Father Tim Series) to the area for your easy reach and enjoyment.
