PRAYER OF THE DAY:………………………………………………………… WOV Page 30
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Let us pray…
C: Lord, sometimes we get so far away from you that it hurts. Sometimes we don’t even realize that we have left your side. Sometimes we are so sure that we are right that we stop seeking your way. For all of these ”sometimes” Lord, may the power or your Holy Spirit come into our hearts and restore us to you. Amen.
THE WORD OF GOD: First Lesson: Isaiah 5:1-7
1I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside. 2He dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower in it and cut out a winepress as well. Then he looked for a crop of good grapes, but it yielded only bad fruit. 3"Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. 4What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad? 5Now I will tell you what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled. 6I will make it a wasteland, neither pruned nor cultivated, and briers and thorns will grow there. I will command the clouds not to rain on it." 7The vineyard of the LORD Almighty is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are the garden of his delight. And he looked for justice, but saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard cries of distress.
Psalm 80:1-7
1 Hear us, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock; you who sit enthroned
between the cherubim, shine forth
2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh. Awaken your might; come and save us.
3 Restore us, O God; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.
4 O LORD God Almighty, how long will your anger smolder against the prayers
of your people?
5 You have fed them with the bread of tears; you have made them drink tears by the
bowlful.
6 You have made us a source of contention to our neighbors, and our enemies
mock us.
7 Restore us, O God Almighty; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.
Second Lesson: Hebrews 11:29-33a.”
29By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned. 30By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days. 31By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient. 32And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, 33who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand): WOV No. 613
C:
Celtic Alleluia
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, beginning in the 12th Chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
Gospel Lesson: Luke 12:49-53
49"I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! 51Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON:.............................. ”Heat Advisory in Effect!”..........................David Hudson
PRAISE HYMN: Jesus Loves Me
Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong. They are weak but He is strong.
Refrain Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me, He who died, heaven’s gate to open wide.
He will wash away my sin, let His little child come in.
Refrain
Jesus loves me, this I know, as He loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee, saying, “Let them come to me.”
Refrain
APOSTLES' CREED (stand, if you are able): WOV Page 33
C: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.*
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
OFFERING/OFFERTORY: (Stand, if you are able, and sing)…………. LBW 565

If you’re not computer savvy, or are just not interested in blogging as a form of communication, we still want you to be involved. Pick up a copy of something that interests you and don’t worry about anything other than your own enjoyment of the book. Also, if you like one of the authors you’re reading, look around at the shelves in the book nook. There are other books by most of the authors chosen. We’ve also added other books (such as the Joshua Series and the Father Tim Series) to the area for your easy reach and enjoyment.
