HYMN OF PRAISE: WOV Page 29
Glory to God, glory to God, glory to God in the highest;
Glory to God, glory to God, and peace to God’s people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly king, almighty God and Father,
We worship You, we give You thanks, we praise You for Your glory.
Glory to God, glory to God, glory to God in the highest;
Glory to God, glory to God, and peace to God’s people on earth.
PRAYER OF THE DAY: WOV Page 30
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Let us pray…
C: Lord, we are told that we should have everything that we want, and that makes it easy to forget why you came. You came to heal! Help us to remember that! Amen.
BAPTISM: (No photographs, please, until after worship. The service of Baptism is an opportunity for all of us to remember our Baptisms.)
P: Dear Parents and Sponsors, you have brought Ava Laine Pickard and Natalie Vert to this place because God wants them to be washed and cleansed. Through sin, we live in a broken world, but in baptism, by water and the spirit, we are reborn children of God and made members of Christ’s Body.
S: We present Ava and Natalie to be washed in God’s Baptismal water.
P: As parents and sponsors, you are now asked to see that these children grow up in the Christian Faith. That they learn the stories of our Faith. See to it that through your lives they understand the meaning of the Creeds, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments. Make sure that they experience the love of Christ through your love, for it is Christ’s love which shall sustain them throughout their lives. Will you keep these promises?
Parents & Sponsors: We will.
P: Together, with this Congregation of Believers, will you affirm your faith and the Faith into which Ava and Natalie are baptized?
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: (congregation together)
God is love, and in God is the source of all goodness and truth. God is the creator of the universe and continues to recreate with us a kingdom of compassion for all humankind. Jesus is God’s Son. Jesus was born of Mary, lived a life of kindness and concern, died a cruel death on an executioner’s cross, and was raised on the third day to a new life. Jesus’ life is our life. We can now live a life of kindness and concern; we can die and be raised to new life; we can live as forgiven sinners, confident of our place in eternity. We can respond to the call of Christ to follow him.
The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God, alive and at work, establishing and building the realm of God on this earth. The Spirit of God leads us into the true faith, guides us through the difficult choices of life, and comforts us when we feel as if we cannot go on. God is with us, living inside of us, through the Holy Spirit. Amen.
THE BAPTISM: Ava Laine Pickard and Natalie Vert, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen
BAPTISMAL PRAYER
P: Ava Pickard and Natalie Vert, children of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the Cross of Christ forever.
A: Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
CONGREGATIONAL WELCOME: We welcome you into the Lord’s family. We receive you as fellow members of the body of Christ, children of the same heavenly Father, and workers with us in the kingdom of God.
Today we welcome Ava Pickard and Natalie Vert into our family of Christ. Ava is the daughter of Mark & Renee (Van Haverbeck) Pickard of Macomb. Ava’s sponsors are Michael Pickard and Ashley Van Haverbeck. Natalie is the daughter of John and April (Spindler) Vert of Romeo. Ava’s sponsors are Jason and Molly Lawson.
THE WORD OF GOD
FIRST LESSON: Jeremiah 1:4-10
4The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 5"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." 6"Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child." 7But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD. 9Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth. 10See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant."
Psalm 71:1-6
1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame.
2 Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness; turn your ear to me and save me.
3 Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.
4 Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of evil and cruel men.
5 For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth.
6 From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother's womb. I will ever praise you.
SECOND LESSON: Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24, 28-29
18You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 22But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, 24to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. 28Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29for our "God is a consuming fire."
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand, if you are able): WOV No. 612
C: Celtic Alleluia
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 13th Chapter
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
THE HOLY GOSPEL: Luke 13:10-17
10On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, 11and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, "Woman, you are set free from your infirmity." 13Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God. 14Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue ruler said to the people, "There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath." 15The Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Doesn't each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? 16Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?" 17When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.
P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON: “Healing Reign” Jerry Foor
PRAISE HYMN: Jesus Loves Me
Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong. They are weak but He is strong.
Refrain Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me, He who died, heaven’s gate to open wide.
He will wash away my sin, let His little child come in.
Refrain
Jesus loves me, this I know, as He loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee, saying, “Let them come to me.”
Refrain
OFFERING/OFFERTORY (stand and sing): WOV Page 35
C: Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord, and fill to the brim our cup of blessing.
Gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown, that we may be fed with the bread of life. Gather the hopes and dreams of all; unite them with the prayers we offer now. Grace our table with your presence, Lord, and give us a foretaste of the feast to come.
A: Let us pray. Merciful God
C: we offer with joy and thanksgiving what you have first given us--
ourselves, our time, and our possessions, signs of your gracious love.
Receive them for the sake of him who offered himself for us, Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
Announcements and Recognition of Visitors
After the updates of the People Concerns, the Congregation will stand and sing together,
In Moments Like These
In moments like these I sing out a song,
I sing out a love song to Jesus.
In moments like these I lift up my hands,
I lift up my hands to the Lord.
Singing, ‘I love you, Lord.’ Singing, ‘I love you, Lord.’
Singing, ‘I love you, Lord, I love you.’
THE PRAYERS (stand): WOV Page 34
A: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus,
and for all people according to their needs.
Each portion of the prayers concludes with these words:
A: Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.
The prayers conclude with these words:
P: Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray,
trusting in your mercy; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
C: Amen
THE ORDER OF CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS:
P: Gracious God,
C: Our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo.
Forgive what our lips tremble to name; what our hearts can no longer bear,
and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a
past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed;
and grant us grace to grow more and more in Your likeness and image;
through Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen.
PARDON:
P: Jesus Christ our Savior gave himself for us, redeeming us from all sin and cleansing us to be people who are eager to do what is good. Through the water of rebirth and
the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, God saves us, renews us in grace and bestows on
us eternal life.
C: Amen.
GREAT THANKSGIVING: WOV Page 36
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Lift up your hearts.
C: We lift them to the Lord.
P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
P: It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places
offer thanks . . . (Here the minister continues with the proper preface, concluding:) we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
Congregation sings
C: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna. Hosanna. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
P: In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for
you. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
THE LORD’S PRAYER: (stand if you are able)
P: Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:
C: Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

Pick up a copy of something that interests you and don’t worry about anything other than your own enjoyment of the book. Also, if you like one of the authors you’re reading, look around at the shelves in the book nook. There are other books by most of the authors chosen.
