St. John Lutheran Church of Romeo

Be the Church is taking place the weekend of October 8th-9th and we are encouraging you to participate!  

Be the Church will have events on Saturday, October 8, 2011 in addition to our Sunday events. If you're not available on Sunday, perhaps a Saturday event will work for you. Grace Lutheran Fellowship will be joining us in our efforts this year. Note that there will be no Sunday services at St. John on October 9th.

Some of the events are as follows:

• Morning church service at Grace Lutheran (8:30am)
• St. Paul Lutheran clean-up and community garden creation
• Samaritan House food drive
• Quilting
• Sewing Walker bags for the Veterans Homes
• "No-sew" blankets and stuffed toys (kids project)
• Senior Center choir concerts
• Meal Bag Creation for Samaritan House
• Habitat for Humanity (Saturday, October 8, 2011)
• Ground clean-up at St. John and Grace Lutheran
• Shoe Box ministry (see flyer in Gathering Area)
• Local Senior Citizen projects (one will be painting a house)
• Luncheon preparation and clean-up at St. John

We are specifically looking for people who have roto-tillers to help with the creation of a community garden at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

You are really needed if you have plumbing or electrical skills. Two of our projects need plumbing, one needs electrical work.

If you have scaffolding, or know someone who does, we need to talk. The Douglas House is two stories and scaffolding will make the job go much quicker.

We will be completing lots of painting jobs this year. Most of us don't love to paint, but remember that 20 of us working on a job will make it two or threee hours of chore at the most. The painting we're doing is greatly appreciated and the help is sorely needed.

We need at least three portable sewing machinges for Sunday, October 8th.

There will be a church service this year. Grace Lutheran will hold a kick-off service at 8:30am. All events will begin at 10:00am following the service. Please plan to attend.

Lunch will be served beginning at 11:00am until around 3:00pm. Sandwiches, fruit, and beverages will be served. Please plan to attend.

Donations needed for "Be The Church":

• Gallon size Ziploc bags 
• 2 yards of fleece fabric (need 80 yards total) or small lap-sized fleece throws
• Double, Queen, or King flat sheets for quilters (may be gently used)
• Yard waste bags
• 220 cans of tomatoes (28 oz)
• 220 packages of cornbread mix
• 220 medium sized onions
• 27 pounds of each of the following beans: Red Kidney, Black Beans, Navy Beans, Split peas, Lima beans, Green lentils, Pinto Beans, Black-eyed peas, Garbanzo beans, Cranberry beans

We will also be collecting diapers (especially preemie) and powdered formula for Compassion Pregnancy Center.
