Thank You from the 150th Anniversary Committee!St. John Lutheran Church of Romeo — 150th Anniversary Celebration Review
September 24-25, 2022 This past September 24-25th, our congregation celebrated the 150th Anniversary of its founding on September 22, 1872. It was a wonderful homecoming weekend for so many current and past members with over 300 people participating. Warm greetings and sharing of memories was the theme of the entire event. The church entrance was surrounded by beautiful colorful mum plants. The weekend began with our 5th son of the congregation, Pastor Nick Billardello preaching at the 5:00 p.m. Saturday service with Pastor Dee Reis presiding. Many youth were involved in this service making it extra special. Pastor Nick shared his memories of growing up in the St. John congregation and that he felt back at home standing in our sanctuary. It was here that he learned that "Jesus loves us just the way we are" and salvation is a gift to share with others. The service was followed by desserts and afterglow music provided by the "Wayward Wind" band. Our special Sunday service was at 10:30 a.m. with Southeastern Michigan Bishop Donald Kreiss, preaching and Pastor Dee and Pastor Joyce presiding. His message celebrated the saints that have come before us in this place for so many years and challenged us as we move into the future and what the "The Church" may look like in the next 50 years. We honored our German heritage with saying the Lord's Prayer in German led by Kathryn Schroeder Hall. Music was a major part of worship with songs from the Praise Ringers and Praise Singers. A celebration banquet in our Schmidt Hall followed with 175 people in attendance. Music was provided by our Sound Disciples. Both of these services may be seen on the St. John YouTube channel. We are in the process of creating a memory book with all the photographs provided by photographer, Nicole Falker Smiley. You will also see photos on our website. We praise God for blessing us and we pray for His guidance as we share the Good News of the gospel with others in the years ahead. St. John Lutheran Church 150th Anniversary Committee |
